Type Grid: your words as a Swiss poster that re-cuts on every beat

The Type Grid rig stretches your words into a Swiss-style poster grid that slides, splits and explodes in time with your song, in any shape from 9:16 to an LED strip.

Type Grid takes a few words, like an artist name, a show title or a date, and turns them into a poster grid that moves with the music.

What it does

The frame is cut into cells. Each word gets a cell and is stretched to fill it, turned on its side when the cell is tall. Spare cells hold info blocks (tempo, time, the section of the song), your own pictures printed in the grid's two inks, or print patterns like halftone and stripes. Solid cells knock the type out.

Then the song drives it:

  • every hit slides the split lines to new proportions
  • every few hits you get a new grid
  • a new section of the song brings a new layout and the second ink
  • the drop explodes into more cells with an inverted flash
  • a breakdown falls back to a few big cells, and the build splits them up again hit by hit

No song in the project? It runs at 120 BPM through a made-up verse, build and drop so you can see it move.

How to use it

Open Rigs in the toolbar and add Type Grid (it's under Type). Type your words in its panel and add a song to the project. It works in any shape: 16:9, 9:16 for Reels, or a long thin LED strip.

Start from a preset: Poster, Swiss Blue, Newsprint, LED Wall, Explode, Minimal or Overlay. Then use the two dice to roll new structures and colours.

Ideas

  • A tour announcement: the artist name huge, dates in the info blocks.
  • Overlay mode on top of footage, so the grid re-slices your clips on every kick.
  • A one-word loop for a Spotify Canvas.
