Slow motion, freeze frames and speed ramps on any layer

Time remapping in Kubrick lets any layer play slower, faster, freeze on a frame or ramp its speed, including its keyframes, children and video.

Sometimes the animation is right but the timing isn't. Time remapping lets you change how fast a layer plays without touching its keyframes.

Quick moves

Right-click a layer and open Time:

  • Freeze frame at playhead holds the layer on the current frame
  • Half speed plays it at half speed
  • Double speed plays it twice as fast
  • Enable time remapping gives you full control

Everything inside the layer follows: its own keyframes, its child layers, any video it holds. Slow motion stays smooth for keyframed motion because Kubrick can show in-between frames, not just repeat whole ones.

Speed ramps

When time remapping is on, the layer gets a Time Remap row in the timeline. Each key on it says which moment of the layer to show at that point in the video. Open the graph editor and drag the bezier handles on that row to ease in and out of a speed change. That's a speed ramp: fast into a hit, a slow drift through the moment, then back up to speed.

Ideas

  • Freeze a logo just as it lands on the drop, then let it carry on.
  • Put a whole group of type at half speed for a quiet intro, then double it for the chorus.
  • Ramp a product shot down to almost a stop at its best angle.

The canvas follows along: selecting and dragging a remapped layer works on what you actually see at that frame.
